Don’t own a boat or possess a boat operator proficiency card? No Problem! Free temporary boat license provided with each rental (one per rental only). We are your access to the water. We offer a wide variety of rental possibilities. Kayaks, Canoes, Fishing Boats, and Pontoon boats with a steering wheel for you and 9 of your friends or family to enjoy time with you. We can provide a temporary boat license through our Dock Side Checklist, which is Coast Guard approved and provides you with the necessary proficiency to operate your boat for the duration of your rental. No boating experience necessary!

  • What you need to know about renting a boat

    Personal Information Required

      This requires the presentation of government issued photo identification to verify identity, address and age.

      Acceptable

      • Ontario Driver’s License or Photo Card
      • Passport (Canadian or Foreign)
      • Drivers License (provided that a photo is present)
      • Canadian Citizenship card with photo

    Boating Proficiency License

      Everyone who operates a motor boat requires proof of competency (something that shows they understand the basic rules and how to safely operate a boat).

      Valid proofs of competency are:

      • Possession of a Pleasure craft operator card
      • Possession of written proof of completion of a recreational safe boating course in Canada before April 1, 1999
      • Possession of a complete rental boat safety checklist which is valid only during the rental period

    Reservation Policy

      To secure a reservation the full rental fee is charged at the time the reservation is made.

    Cancellation Policy

      • CHANGES: Any change to a confirmed reservation will result in an administration fee. Changes made to canoe, kayak or peddleboat reservations will result in a $15.00 administration fee. Changes made to a fishing boat reservation will result in a $25.00 administration fee. Changes made to a pontoon reservation will result in a $50 administration fee. Changes cannot be made within 7 days of your rental date. We will do our best to reschedule based on our availability.
      • CANCELLATION OR “NO SHOWS”:
        • A cancellation of a canoe, kayak or paddleboat reservation made more than 7 days before the reservation date will result in a refund of the payment minus a $25 administration fee.
        • A cancellation of a fishing boat reservation made more than 7 days before the reservation date will result in a refund of the payment minus a $50 administration fee.
        •  A cancellation of a pontoon reservation made more than 7 days before the reservation date will result in a refund of the payment minus a $100 administration fee.
        • Sorry, cancellation fees cannot be waived for personal emergencies.
        • Full rental fee will be forfeited for cancellations made less than 7 days before the reservation date or a ‘No Show’.
      • WEATHER: Rentals go out rain or shine. The rental will go ahead during rainy conditions. If you do not attend the Marina for your rental due to rain, your rental fee will be forfeited.
        • If weather occurs on Lake Scugog that Port Perry Marina believes to be dangerous or creates unsafe boating conditions, the rental will be moved to another day before September 30th of the year of your rental and the administration fee will be waived.  This decision is at the sole discretion of the Marina. The Marina will endeavor to reschedule you based on our availability. No refunds are available for dangerous conditions, only a rescheduled rental. Future weather forecasts, rain or cloudy weather will not result in a rescheduled rental. Port Perry Marina reserves the right to reschedule rentals with less than 24 hours notice due to dangerous conditions.
        • Dangerous conditions are determined at the sole discretion of Port Perry Marina and may include lightning, tornado, extremely high winds and very heavy rain.
        • If dangerous conditions (detailed above) occur during your rental time period, Port Perry Marina will ‘Pro-Rate’ your rental fee based on the time remaining in your rental period.
        • The minimum fee will be for a 2 hour rental if you choose to go out. A credit voucher will be issued for the remaining time. The hourly rate will be determined by taking the 3 hour rental price and dividing by 3.
        • Vouchers are valid until September 30th of the year of your original rental.

    Rental Policies

      • ARRIVAL TIME: The Renter must arrive 30 minutes prior to the rental. Renters who arrive with less than 30 minute prior to their rentals may forfeit some of their rental time. Rentals will not be extended for the late arrival of the renter or late departure of the boat. The boat must be returned by the stated return time or a $50 late fee will be charged. Any boat returned more than 10 minutes after the stated return time will be charged additional late fees at a rate of $50 for every 10 minutes late.
      • DRIVER: The driver/renter must be at least 19 years of age and provide a valid car drivers license for verification at the Marina before the rental. The driver/renter must sign the rental agreement in store at the marina. There are a maximum number of drivers of 1. If additional passengers possess a valid BOPC, they may drive at the discretion of the Renter. The Renter remains liable for the boat and passengers if they allow an additional person not named on the rental agreement to drive.
      • BOAT LICENSE: If the Renter/Driver does not possess a boat license, they will be required to complete a dockside safety checklist upon arrival at the Marina, which acts as a temporary license for the duration of the rental. There is no fee for the dockside safety checklist. Only one dockside safety checklist is available per rental, no exceptions.
      • MAXIMUM CAPACITY: Renter will not exceed the maximum number of passengers for each boat which includes any children or infants. Large pets may impact capacity limits.
      • LIFEJACKETS/SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Lifejackets and all Canadian Coast Guard required safety equipment is included in the rental for no charge. Child life jackets are available but not guaranteed. We cannot guarantee we will have the right size life jacket for every child with every reservation. Please bring your own if you have them! The smallest lifejackets available are for children weighing over 9kgs/20lbs. No child under this size will be permitted onto the boat.
      • SECURITY/DAMAGE DEPOSIT:
        • Canoes/paddleboats/kayaks require a $100 deposit using cash or credit-preauthorization.
        • Fishing boats require a $250 deposit using cash or credit-preauthorization.
        • Pontoon boats require a $500 security/damage deposit using credit-preauthorization on a Visa or MasterCard credit card only. We do not accept: Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, American Express, Debit cards or Cash. No exceptions.
        • Failure to provide the appropriate deposit may result in the rental being unable to go ahead and the rental payment being forfeited.
      • GAS:
        • For Pontoon rentals: The boat will begin the rental with a full tank of gas. The boat is refilled when the Renter returns the boat, and the Renter is required to pay for the gas they have used. This cost will be applied to the credit card used for the security/damage deposit.
        • For fishing boat rentals: The first tank of gas is included in the rental. Any additional tanks of gas will be charged and payable by the customer.
        • The Renter is responsible for monitoring the gas level in the rental boat, and independently refilling if necessary.

      • NO WAKE ZONES: The Renter will drive with no wake (ie slow speed with no waves made by the boat) when leaving or entering the marina docks.
      • USE OF ALCOHOL: No alcohol or drugs are permitted on the boat and the driver must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while renting the watercraft.
      • BREAKDOWN OR ACCIDENT: Renter will immediately report to the Marina any breakdown, malfunction or accident involving the watercraft and/or any of the Renter’s guests. Any damage to the boat by the customer during the rental period or any occurrence that requires the Marina staff to attend the boat will incur a $50 per hour service charge.
      • NO BBQ GRILLS: No BBQ grills or fire of any kind is permitted on the watercraft.
      • NO BEACHING: Renter will not allow the motorized watercraft to be brought closer than 60 meters or 200 feet from the shore edge as damage to watercraft may occur.
      • TOWING: No Towing of any object or person is permitted.
      • CLEANLINESS: The Renter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the boat. Boats returned dirty will incur a cleaning fee will be applied in $20 increments based on the overall returned condition.
      • PETS: Pets are permitted on the boat, and must be cleaned up after. A $50 cleaning fee will apply to any mess left by pets. No pet lifejackets are provided. Large pets may reduce capacity limits. Check with Marina staff for more information.
      • LATE RETURN: The boat must be returned by the stated return time or a $50 late fee will be charged. Any boat returned more than 10 minutes after the stated return time will be charged additional late fees at a rate of $50 for every 10 minutes late.
      • LOCATION RESTRICTIONS: Rental boats are intended for use on Lake Scugog only. Any rentals that leave Lake Scugog and enter the Scugog River or the Nonquon River will be subject to a service charge of $150 per hour for any mechanical issues, breakdowns or running out of gas or any other occurrence that requires Marina staff to attend the boat.
      • SPECIFIC UNIT RENTED: Port Perry Marina will endeavor to provide the unit reserved by the customer, however uncontrollable circumstances occur. If the unit is not available, Port Perry Marina reserves the right to substitute the unit for a comparable unit. Ie a Pontoon will be substituted for a different Pontoon. If no substitute is available, Port Perry Marina reserves the right to cancel the rental with less than 24 hours notice if no substitute is available.
      • Refusal to abide by the above policies will result in the rental being terminated and all payments forfeited.

    Security/Damage Deposit

      • This deposit ensures that the boat is returned in the same condition it was rental in
      • This deposit may be used by to cover damage to the boat/motor and/or loss/damage to any of the equipment provided with the boat

      Canoes/paddleboats/kayaks require a $100 deposit using cash or credit-preauthorization on a Visa or MasterCard credit card only.

      Fishing boats require a $250 deposit using cash or credit-preauthorization on a Visa or MasterCard credit card only.

      Pontoon boats require a $500 deposit using credit-preauthorization on a Visa or MasterCard credit card only. For Pontoon pre-authorizations, we do not accept: Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, American Express, Debit cards or Cash. No exceptions. Failure to provide the appropriate deposit may result in the rental being unable to go ahead and the rental payment being forfeited.

      A credit pre-authorization is a hold placed on the card to ensure the customer has the required deposit. The hold usually automatically releases itself within 24-48 hours but may stay as long as a week. This varies by card type and individual. If the customer pays on the same credit card upon return the unused portion of the deposit will return at the usual transaction posting rate.

    Optional Accidental Damage Deductible Buy-Down

      You have the option of purchasing accidental damage deductible buy down.

      For the cost of $10 for Fishing Boats and $15 for Pontoons, you may purchase a reduction in your exposure to the costs of accidental damage to the boat and motor.

      The customer is responsible for all damages to rental units. Should you choose to include the Accidental Damage Deductible BuyDown, your exposure to costs would be reduced to a maximum of $250 on Fishing Boats  and $1000 on Pontoons.

      This deductible buydown is strictly for accidents and will be at the sole discretion of Port Perry Marina. Miss-use or abuse of the rental unit is a choice and not an accident, and the accidental damage deductible buydown will not apply in such circumstances.
